In simple terms, the government cannot force soldiers to be quartered (housed) in your home without consent.This amendment was ratified on December 15, 1791. It was drawn from the quartering acts between the American colonies and great Britain, leading up to the American Revolution. the usage of quartering of troops were used to punish towns and areas steward kings didn’t like. troops tended to steal, rape and fight frequently. it was a way of mass punishment towards the English.

Quartering of troops is not that big of an issue currently, but many experts say this is due to it working so well and the other bill of rights should have followed. Currently, the United States relies on voluntary housing systems and military bases to quarter soldiers; however, it is still important to learn about and acknowledge especially with recent time changes.
